We recognise that aspects of our identity, cultural heritage and social circumstances are not mutually exclusive entities but instead interact. Do your staff appreciate that this intersectionality approach to equality and diversity has significance for colleges wanting to close equality gaps? Would new guidance help?
4 July 2018 at 07:08 PM Did you know that positive action is chronically under-utilised, which in turn is acting as a barrier to addressing the under-representation of women within certain apprenticeships such as engineering and construction? Did you know that part of the reason for this is confusion on between positive action and positive discrimination? Would new guidance help?
Apprenticeships, Gender 19 June 2018 at 01:31 PM According to a May 2018 report, ‘Many young Muslim people say abuse is so commonplace it is normalised, but teachers feel ill-equipped to tackle issues of Islamophobia in the classroom.’ Ofsted expect outstanding tutors to have the knowledge and confidence to take advantage of what is going in the world to help prepare learners for life in Britain’s complex multicultural society. Are your tutors confident to tackle this issue and to facilitate conversations around Islamophobia? Would new resources help?
