Access to Work scheme covers work experience placements

Do your staff know that the ‘access to work’ scheme now covers work experience placements? The scheme provides financial support towards the extra costs faced by disabled people at work such as support workers, specialist aids and equipment, and travel to work.
As of 9 December 2013, the scheme now covers work experience placements arranged by disabled people with employers. Previously it only covered placements arranged through Jobcentre Plus. It is important that staff are aware of this extra support when arranging work experience or placements, and can keep students and employers informed of the help available.
