Good workplace practices can spot and resolve mental health issues

How confident are you that your managers support effectively their staff with mental health difficulties such as stress? Have you trained managers to understand how to deal with mental health problems and how to spot issues? Is there a fear of doing or saying the wrong thing? Did you know that a new report provides examples of how to get it right?
A new report published by the TUC, Good practice in workplace mental health, says workers have been experiencing a significant increase in stress, which in some cases has led to mental health difficulties. The report says recent years have shown significant increases in cases of stress-induced mental health difficulties, as a result of austerity both on workers’ working and home lives; however, many employers were unable to deal with this properly leading to many people losing their jobs as a result and failing, often because of the stigma associated with mental health, to find new employment.
The report contains case studies showing good practice in creating mentally healthy workplaces. It also signposts further good practice resources
