How Trans-friendly is your organisation?

Would your staff know how to respond if someone in the team suddenly announces that they intend to undergo gender reassignment? Or if they are on an interview panel and one of the applicants is a Trans person? Ethos and culture has greater prominence in the 2015 Inspection handbook. How inclusive is your culture?
The Government Equalities Office has published new guidance ‘Recruiting and retaining transgender staff: a guide for employers’ to provide staff with practical advice, suggestions and ideas on the recruitment and retention of transgender employees and potential employees. Following this guidance will help you and your staff to be better equipped to create a more inclusive culture for all who work and learn in your organisation.

The Government Equalities Office has also published new guidance ‘Providing services for transgender customers’. Although this guidance is tailored to organisations providing services such as shops, restaurants, banks, sports clubs and leisure centres, education providers may find the guidance useful in explaining how to ensure transgender people are welcomed, included, valued and treated fairly and appropriately.
