How will your organisation celebrate Human Rights Day?

Human Rights Day in December 2013 had special significance as 2013 was the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the mandate of the High Commissioner for Human Rights. As a result, the British Institute of Human Rights has created a website with a wealth of materials. Are your staff aware of these resources?
The Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) was adopted on 10 December 1948. The date has since served to mark Human Rights Day worldwide. the UDHR was drafted following atrocities committed during World War II including the Holocaust. It sets out 30 fundamental human rights and freedoms to which all people everyhwere in the world are entitled, without any distinction. The British Institute of Human Rights is a UK charity that works to bring rights to life and to raise awareness of how human rights protections make a difference to everyone living in the UK.
Human Rights has often been exploited negatively in the press to sensationalise news stories, so celebrating Human Rights Day will help to counteract this negative publicity and raise understanding and awareness of Human Rights.
