New ministers for women and equalities

On 9 April 2014, the Government announced the appointments of Sajid Javid MP as Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport and Minister for Equalities, and Nicky Morgan MP as Minister for Women. The appointments follow the resignation of Maria Miller as Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport.

Following the announcement that Nicky Morgan will be the Minister for Women ‘attending Cabinet’ and Sajid Javid will have responsibility for Equalities, Gloria De Piero MP, Labour’s Shadow Minister for Women and Equalities, wrote to the Prime Minister to ask for clarification of the Women and Equalities portfolio.
