Take the lead: a guide to welcoming people with assistance dogs

Do your staff, such as those working in reception, security, student services and estates, know how to welcome and provide support for people with assistance dogs? Do they know the legal duties providers need to meet for assistance dog owners? A new guide might help.
In April 2017, the Equality and Human Rights Commission published an updated guide with VisitEngland to help organisations welcome people with access requirements. It explains what the legal duties are to assistance dog owners under the Equality Act 2010 and how staff can meet them, often at no extra cost.
Although the guide is written for the tourism industry, it will be relevant to any public sector organisations and may be useful to circulate to staff in front line services such as reception, security, estates, information, advice and guidance and admissions.
