Government Equalities Office: ‘Changing Attitudes to Equality’

In August 2012, the Government Equalities Office (GEO) published ‘Changing Attitudes to Equality’. The report identifies that attitudes are changing in the longer term, in some areas quicker than others.
There were four key findings from the report:
• People in the UK value equality as a concept
• People are likely to feel there is more prejudice than there actually is
• Prejudice is often hidden – people often do not say what they really feel
• It is unclear whether government is driving, or responding to change in attitudes
