To what extent can Gypsy, Roma and Traveller students access your provision? And when they do, what are their experiences compared to their peers? Would some suggestions of how you might improve your practice help?
A recent report highlights the barriers that Gypsy, Roma and Traveller students often face. Baroness Janet Whitaker, cochair of the group that wrote the report, said:
‘The plight of Gypsy, Roma and Traveller communities has long been an area of interest and concern for me, none more so than in the arena of education. The discussions have often been dominated by the issues, barriers and experiences in Primary and Secondary Education which have left the discussions of Further Education shrouded in darkness.’
There are case studies and a series of recommendations to improve access and experience, for 14-16 provision, vocational training, traineeships and apprenticeships, and A level programmes
